Description

This is one of the best decaf coffees we’ve ever tried, and certainly the best we’ve roasted thus far. For anyone who is in the “Death Before Decaf” camp… we think this just may change your mind.

Jairo Arcila is a third generation coffee grower in Quindio, Colombia. Married to Luz Helena Salazar they had two children together: Carlos and Felipe Arcila, the co-founders of Cofinet. Jairo’s first job was at Colombia’s second-largest exporter as their Mill Manager, and he continued to work there for over 40 years until his retirement in 2019.

Jairo bought his first coffee farm, Finca La Esmeralda in 1987, where he planted his first Caturra lot.  He was fortunate enough to earn money by producing coffee while also working full time for the local exporter. Using his savings Jairo slowly managed to purchase five additional farms. First Villarazo, then Mazatlan, Santa Monica, Maracay and Buenos Aires.

This natural Castillo comes from Buenos Aires, and was dried before being sent off to the sugarcane decaffeination treatment, in order to strip away the caffeine. When we tried this coffee, we were blown away by how enjoyable it was, let alone finding out it was a decaf. This just might be the kind of coffee that will change people’s minds on what decaf coffees can be.

We taste: dried cherry, watermelon, pomegranate, honey

Single-Origin Details:

  • Producer: Jairo Arcila

  • Region: Quindio, Colombia

  • Process: Natural

  • Variety: Castillo

  • Elevation: 1200-1700masl
